LRS MEETINGS

  • Wed 26 March – “80 years of Airborne Radar – From the Cavity Magnetron to Multi-Function RF Systems”

    Dr Iain Scott FREng, VP Capability & Chief Technology Office at Leonardo Electronics Division.

    The talk will explore key milestones in the developments of airborne radar, from the development of the Cavity Magnetron at Birmingham University during WW2, through to the advent of Multi-Function RF Systems. It will be illustrated with a selection of Edinburgh-developed radars spanning the Ferranti, GEC, Marconi and Leonardo eras.

  • The LRS usually operates GM3HAM/P from a great site near Gatehouse of Fleet in Dumfries & Galloway.

    3-4 May 2025 – May VHF/UHF Contest – Nobody interested in operating from Gatehouse of Fleet. Norman MM0BMG may operate 432MHz on the Sunday from Lauder Common.

    5-6 July 2025 – VHF NFD – LRS will enter, organized by Pete GM4BYF & Colin GM4HWO.

    6-7 Sept 2025 – 2m Trophy – undecided at present.
