We were delighted to welcome Paul Gacek W6PNG as the speaker and XYL Rebecca from Laguna Beach, CA at our meeting on 28th March 2018. Paul is a SOTA friend of Andy MM0FMF to whom our thanks for arranging this talk.
Originally from London, Paul talked about “Wilderness radio in the Western US with an emphasis more on photos than any kind of tutorial” and showed many of the beautiful places he has operated from.

A quick look at his posting on QRZ.com (https://www.qrz.com) reveals that Paul is a very active ham, with 15,940 look-ups currently, including many for SOTA and NPOTA – National Parks on the Air (a one-year event in 2016 for the 100th anniversary of the setting up of the National Parks Service), using 10-15W SSB and simple antennas. Occasionally he also uses a 100W amplifier but weight is an issue for SOTA in which everything must be carried, at least the last part, to the summit!
