At least ten members of the Lothians Radio Society travelled to Blackpool to attend the Norbreck Rally on April 10th. We drove down the previous day and had our traditional Pub & Curry evening. At the rally, the high point was the presentation to the LRS group of the Cockenzie Quaich. Thanks to persistent lobbying by Colin GM4HWO and Brian GM4DIJ the RSGB had agreed that the Cockenzie Quaich would be presented to the LRS at this event for our success in winning Top Scottish Club in the Restricted Section of VHF-NFD in 2010. The presentation was made by RSGB President Dave Wilson M0OBW (who was also the Exhibition Manager for this rally – busy man)!
Continuing the never-ending quest for the world’s largest naan, Colin GM4HWO
examined this one but it was agreed that the Himalaya Restaurant in Edinburgh
still held the record.
Brian GM8BJF devoted his thoughts to planning the upcoming UHF / Microwave
contest with encouragement from Mike GM4IGS ……
… while Norrie GM1CNH and John GM8OTI recalled previous events.
Peter GM4DTH contemplated the arrival of his Chicken Tikka Masala while
Colin GM4HWO wondered if it was ever going to arrive.
Among the interesting items for sale at the rally
were this R1155 (£100) and T1154 (£700).
This strange character (LRS member Andy MM0FMF) was seen on the SOTA stand
L-R: Brian GM8BJF and Alan GM3PSP met up with former LRS member
Chris G8GFB who now lives in Chorley, Lancs, not far from Blackpool.
The highlight of the rally for us was the presentation of the Cockenzie
Quaich to the LRS for our success in winning Top Scottish Club in the
Restricted Section of VHF-NFD in 2010. The presentation was made
by RSGB President Dave Wilson M0OBW (who was also the Exhibition
Manager for this rally – busy man)! The group of LRS members on-stage
who had participated in VHF-NFD 2010 were (L-R): Alan GM3PSP,
Colin GM4HWO, Mike GM4IGS, Brian GM8BJF and Andy MM0FMF with
RSGB President Dave M0OBW. (Photo by John GM8OTI).
